: Charlemagne's traditional date of birth was (742) which makes him illegitimate. Most Scholors agree he was born after his parents got married, possibly as late as 747.
: Charlemagne married 5 times and had numerous concubines and children. He kept his family around him nearly always, sometimes bringing his sons with him on campaigns.
: Only one of his sons which was Louis survived him to inheret the Empire.

Charlemagne took a serious interest in his and others Scholorship and had learned to read in his Adulthood, although he never quite learned how to write, he used to keep a slate and stylus underneath his pillow. His handwriting was ok but kinda bad, but grew the legend that he could not write. Even he thought learning to read was quite an achievement for kings at this time, most of whom were illiterate.

What happend after Charlemagne's Death?

When Charlemagne died the Frankish Empire was split in parts by his sons. The Empire was split into 3 parts pursuant to the Treaty of the Verdun East Francia, West Francia, and Central Francia. This all happend by the 9th century. The Tradition of dividing Patrimonies among brothers meant that the Frankish realm was ruled, nominally, as one polity subdivided into several Sub-Kingdoms once he died. Charlemagne was born on April 2, 742 in Northern Europe. In 768, when Charlemagne was 26 years of age his and his younger brother Carloman inherited the Kingdom of the Franks. In 771 Carloman died, and then Charlemagne became the ruler of the Kingdom. He was a grreat ruler who was determined to stregthen his realm and to bring order to Europe. In the year of 772 he launched a 30-year military campaign to accomplish this objective. By the year 800 he was an undisputed ruler of Western Europe
